Daniel P. Mooney, Principal
Dan has practiced as a principal since 2000 and has 35 years of experience in the architecture. The breadth of Dan’s work includes urban mixed-use projects, colleges and universities, structured parking, branch libraries, corporate offices, assisted living, multi-family residential, and health care. Signature clients include Baker College System, Carson Equities, Ann Arbor District Library, Pacific Industrial Development Corporation, Shapeways, Chi Omega and the City of Ferndale.
Dan believes that every project should be led by a principal, to that end he is actively engaged in every project from beginning to end. He is currently an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University where he teaches graduate professional practice; and he taught sustainable environmental design courses at Wayne County Community College District for many years.
Ronald L. Thomas, Principal
Ron has over 38 years’ experience in architecture and design. He has been principal-in-charge of diverse projects including schools, offices, governmental, and retail facilities. His work has ranged from major multi-building developments to renovation and tenant improvement projects. Prior to starting Edge, Ron was founding principal and owner of Archetype, Inc., and a principal with Luckenbach Ziegelman Architects, PLLC.
In addition to regular architectural practice, he has served as owner’s representative and program manager for MAVDevelopment, a local real estate investment company. The experience representing landlords and building operators has made him a skilled advocate for building efficiency and long term durability.
Ron manages the business side of every project monitoring the contracts, insurances, payroll, and other day-to-day business activities so things run smoothly. A stickler for detail, Ron crafted the firm’s QA/QC policies and administers QA/QC reviews of each project throughout the process.
Heather Buffone, Associate Principal
Heather has over 24 years working in the architecture and design industry wearing multiple hats throughout her career including Project and Construction Management on both commercial and residential projects. She volunteers for Interior Designers Coalition for Change, has served as Secretary as well as providing design services to communities where there is a need and resources are limited.
In March of 2019 Heather joined Edge Design Associates as Associate Principal and head of interior design. Some of her notable projects include Baker College – Royal Oak Campus, Farmington Hills City Hall, Renovation and Addition, The dot – Mixed Use Development (The Development on Troy) in Ferndale, Ann Arbor District Library, Shapeways, Chi Omega and LeaderDogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills.
Stephen Bohlen, Project Designer
Stephen has over eight years of experience in architecture including three years with Edge Design Associates. At Edge, everyone wears many hats and Stephen’s skill set has greatly increased in three short years. He is particularly adept at developing construction documents in Revit and using building information modeling (BIM) to coordinate the work of our consultants. Stephen is fully capable to tackle small project from start to finish with the assistance of senior staff. His experience in all phases of construction and CD’s increases his ability maintain quality assurance in all his work.
From a young age Stephen has always wanted to be an architect. He is currently studying for the registration exams with the goal of being a licensed architect in 2024.
